Kaercher was the first woman endorsed for state office by the Republican Party in Minnesota history, the first woman to appear on a primary or general election ballot for this office, the first woman elected to statewide office in Minnesota and the first woman elected to Clerk of the Supreme Court in any state. Kaercher was the older sister of State Representative Lem Kaercher (HD 48, 1959-1961).
