Senator Franken was reelected to a second term. Franken resigned on January 2, 2018. DFL Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith was appointed to fill the vacancy on January 3, 2018.

McFadden was a resident of Sunfish Lake and investment banker and CEO at Lazard Middle Market.

Carlson was a development consultant and attorney from St. Paul, Republican nominee for HD 55B in 1996, Independence nominee for the 4th CD in 2010 and 2012, DFL candidate for the 4th CD in 2016, and DFL candidate for U.S. Senate in 2018.

Johnson was a resident of Golden Valley, writer, and returning student at Hamline University.
