Hughes was a resident of Duluth and candidate for Railroad and Warehouse Commissioner in 1932.

Johnson was a hardware store owner from Fillmore, state Representative (HD 01, 1921-1931, 1939-1949), Speaker of the House (1925-1931), and eventual state Senator (SD 01, 1949-1959).

Swenson was a resident of Albert Lea, former banker, and former state Senator (SD 06, 1915-1919).

Putnam was a resident of Excelsior, operator of a fleet of boats on Lake Minnetonka, and candidate for Railroad and Warehouse Commissioner in 1928.

Pierson was a former newspaper publisher and publicity agent from Minneapolis and nominee for SD 33 in 1942. Pierson originally launched a campaign for the U.S. Senate in April 1930.
