Notes: Baker was a gay rights activist who applied for a marriage license with his partner Michael McConnell in Hennepin County in 1970. They were the first gay couple to apply for a marriage license in the United States and were married by a Methodist minister, Roger Lynn, on September 3, 1971 in Minneapolis. However, the marriage certificate was never officially recorded. While in law school, Baker was elected president of the Minnesota Student Association.
