Governor Dayton was renominated with a new running mate. Smith was the Chief of Staff to Governor Dayton and Chief of staff to former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.
Davis was an environmental activist from Minneapolis, Nutrition Rights Alliance gubernatorial nominee in 1994, Independence Party candidate for U.S. Senate in 2000, GOP candidate for governor in 2002 and 2010, and American Party of Minnesota gubernatorial nominee in 2006; Soderberg was an environmentalist, author from Austin, and Davis’ Lieutenant Governor running mate in 2006 and 2010.
Dahn was a perennial candidate from Landfall, GOP gubernatorial candidate in 1998, Independence gubernatorial candidate in 2002, Independence U.S. Senate candidate in 2008, and Independence Attorney General nominee in 2010; Vigliotti was a resident of St. Paul.
