Associate Justice Anderson was appointed to the Court by Governor Arne Carlson on September 1, 1998 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Esther Tomljanovich resigned on August 31, 1998 to retire from public office. Anderson was a resident of Crookston, former Beltrami County Attorney (1978-1982), and former Ninth Judicial District Judge (1982-1998). Governor Tim Pawlenty appointed Anderson to Chief Justice on January 10, 2006 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Chief Justice Kathleen Blatz on January 10, 2006. Governor Pawlenty appointed Lorie Skjerven Gildea to fill Anderson’s seat on January 11, 2006. Gildea was a resident of Minneapolis, Fourth Judicial District Judge, and former prosecutor in the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
