Mattson was an attorney and restaurant owner from Britt, DFL candidate for Secretary of State in 1970, former Auditor (1975-1979), candidate for the 4th CD in 1976, and candidate for U.S. Senate in 1984. Mattson was the son of state Attorney General Robert W. Mattson, Sr. (1964-1967).
Stern was a resident of St. Louis Park, former Mayor of St. Louis Park (1976-1979), sitting state Senator (SD 41, 1979-1983), and party-endorsed candidate.
Allers was a business representative from Richfield, candidate for SD 37 in 1980, and candidate for Auditor in 1990.
