Senator Mondale was renominated to a second term. Mondale was appointed to the U.S. Senate on December 30, 1964 for the unexpired term ending January 3, 1967 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Senator Hubert Humphrey on December 29, 1964 following his election to the office of Vice-President.
Franklin was a taxicab driver from Minneapolis, candidate for the 5th CD in 1968, and candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1972.
