Senator Thye was renominated for a third term.

Slettedahl was a school teacher from St. Paul, candidate for the 10th CD in 1926, candidate in the Presidential primary in 1952, nominee for the 4th CD in 1956, candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1952, and candidate for the 4th CD in 1960.

Schmidt was a homemaker from Brooklyn Center and candidate for Governor in 1952. Schmidt was the first Republican woman to appear on a primary or general Minnesota gubernatorial ballot and second woman overall. Schmidt was a member of the Washington Saucer Intelligence group who stated, "I know many who have traveled in space ships or had interplanetary contacts."
