Bjornson was a resident of St. Paul, sitting Treasurer (1951-1955), and former associate editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press-Dispatch.

Ryan was an attorney from St. Paul, Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in 1940, DFL candidate for U.S. Senate in 1946, DFL candidate for Attorney General in 1950 and 1956, and DFL candidate for the 2nd CD in 1960. Ryan was nominated by petition.

Dunne was a resident of Minneapolis, Farmer-Labor candidate for the 5th CD in 1928, Workers Communist nominee for U.S. Senate in 1928, Socialist nominee for Secretary of State in 1936, and the Socialist Workers nominee for U.S. Senate in 1948 and 1952. Dunne was nominated by petition.
