This marked the 20th consecutive GOP victory for the office. Smith was reelected to a second term.
Meighen was a resident of Fillmore County who was also a candidate for many offices over the decades: People's nominees for the 1st CD in 1894 and Governor in 1902, Democratic nominee for state Auditor in 1910 and candidate for U.S. Senate in 1922, and Farmer-Labor nominee for Treasurer in 1926 and Lieutenant Governor in 1928.
Wilkinson was a dairy farmer from Owatonna.
Wallinder was the St. Louis County People's Party Chairman and People's Party nominee for SD 54 in 1896.
