Notes: | Winter was state secretary of the Minnesota Communist Party. He was endorsed by the Communist Party at the state convention in June 1940 and ran a sticker candidacy that November. Winter later became state chair of the Michigan Communist Party. On October 14, 1949 Winter was one of 11 Communist Party leaders convicted of conspiring against the U.S. government under the Smith Act. |
