Associate Justice Anderson was appointed to the Court by Governor Arne Carlson on July 1, 1994 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Associate Justice John Simonette on June 30, 1994 a few days before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. Anderson was a resident of Inver Grove Heights, former special assistant Attorney General (1970-1971), and former Minnesota Court of Appeals Chief Judge (1992-1994).

Graham was an attorney from Brainerd, former associate professor at the Midwestern School of Law, and nominee for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1974.
