This was Anderson's fourth attempt at securing the Independent-Republican nomination for attorney general having previously lost the primaries of 1982, 1986, and 1990. With her primary victory, Anderson became the first woman nominee for the office in state history.

Neuville was an attorney from Northfield and state Senator (SD 25, 1991-2007).

Olson was a farmer and Lyndon LaRouche adherent.
