Secretary of State Growe was reelected to a sixth and final term, tying DFLer Joseph Donovan for third in Minnesota history behind Republicans Mike Holm (16 terms) and Julius Schmahl (seven). It was the 13th consecutive victory by the DFL for the office.

Kimbler was an insurance agent from Ramsey. He was the Republican nominee for SD 50 in 1996 and Constitution Party nominee for SD 50 in 2000.

Wilkins was a machine operator from Hopkins and Grassroots nominee for SD 59 in 1998 and HD 59A in 1998. He was nominated by petition.
