Hatch was an attorney from Burnsville, former DFL state party chair, and state Commerce Commissioner (1983-1989); Staples was a former state Senator (SD 43, 1977-1981) from Plymouth.
Herschbach was a perennial candidate, Lyndon LaRouche adherent, and a truck driver from Mendota Heights; Olson was a farmer and LaRouchite.
