Dayton was a resident of Minneapolis, DFL nominee for U.S. Senate in 1982, former state Commissioner of Department of Economic Development (1983-1986), and state Commissioner of Department of Energy and Economic Development (1978). Dayton was later a DFL candidate for governor in 1998, U.S. Senator (2001-2007), and Governor (2011-2019).
Heinrich was a resident of Minnetonka and former City Manager of Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, and Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
