Associate Justice Simonett was reelected to a third term without opposition. Simonett resigned on June 30, 1994 a few days before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70. Governor Arne Carlson appointed Paul Anderson to fill the vacancy on July 1, 1994. Anderson was a resident of Inver Grove Heights, former special assistant Attorney General (1970-1971), and former Minnesota Court of Appeals Chief Judge (1992-1994).
