Associate Justice Amdahl was appointed to the Court by Governor Al Quie on July 7, 1980 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Associate Justice Fallon Kelly on July 6, 1980. Amdahl was then appointed Chief Justice by Governor Quie on December 18, 1981 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Chief Justice Robert Sheran on December 17, 1981. Glenn Kelley was appointed by Governor Quie on December 18, 1981 to fill the vacancy caused by the appointment of Sheran to Chief Justice. Amdahl was a resident of Minneapolis, former Minneapolis municipal court judge, and former Fourth Judicial District Judge (1962-1980). Kelley was a resident of Winona and Third Judicial District Judge (1969-1981).
