Perpich was a dentist from Hibbing, former state Senator (SD 63, 1963-1971), Lieutenant Governor (1971-1976), Governor (1976-1979), and DFL gubernatorial nominee in 1978; Marlene Johnson worked in advertising and public relations in St. Paul and became the first woman nominated for lieutenant governor by a major party in Minnesota history.
Spannaus was a Minneapolis attorney, former Assistant Attorney General, former DFL state party chair, and sitting Minnesota Attorney General (1971-1982); Carl M. Johnson was a farmer from St. Peter and state Representative (HD 15C, 1967-1973; HD 23B, 1973-1983).
Ellsworth Peterson was an aircraft mechanic from Tonka Bay; Christine Peterson was a waitress from Bloomington and the daughter of Ellsworth Peterson.
