Humphrey was an attorney from New Hope, state Senator (SD 44, 1973-1983), and son of former U.S. Senator and Vice-President Hubert Humphrey.

Rothenberg was a Minneapolis attorney and two-term state Representative (HD 41B, 1979-1983) from St. Louis Park.

Faulk was a resident of Minneapolis and nominated by petition.
