Johnson was an attorney from St. Paul and former state Representative (HD 44, 1963-1967; HD 47A, 1967-1973; HD 63B, 1973-1975); Hanson was a hardware store owner from Vergas, former state Representative (HD 55, 1969-1973), and state Senator (SD 10, 1973-1977).
