Attorney General Spannaus was reelected to a third term.
Knutson was a Burnsville attorney and state Senator (SD 53, 1973-1983; SD 38, 1981-1991) and former three-term state Representative (HD 12B, 1967-1973). He unsuccessfully sought the Independent-Republican endorsement for governor earlier in 1978.
