Chief Justice Sheran was appointed to the Court by Governor Wendell Anderson on December 18, 1973 to fill the vacancy following the resignation of Chief Justice Oscar Knutson on December 17, 1973. Sheran was a Minneapolis attorney and former Associate Justice (1963-1970). He was elected without opposition. Sheran resigned on December 18, 1981 to enter private practice. Governor Al Quie appointed Associate Justice Douglas Amdahl to fill the vacancy on December 18, 1981.
