Special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Republican Senator Harold G. Krieger on January 1, 1975 after getting elected judge on the Olmsted County District Court.
Brataas was a resident of Rochester and became the second woman elected to the chamber in state history following Laura Emelia Naplin (1927-1935).
