Lord was a resident of Chanhassen and sitting state Senator (SD 36, 1973-1974). At 25 years old, Lord became the youngest Minnesotan to get elected to a constitutional office in state history. He was the son of Miles Lord - a U.S. District Court Judge, former U.S. attorney, and former state Attorney General (1955-1960).
Stassen was a resident of South St. Paul, sitting state Senator (SD 52, 1973-1977), candidate for Railroad and Warehouse Commissioner in 1956, candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1966, former 1st CD Republican Chairman, and nephew of former Governor Harold Stassen (1939-1943).
