Special primary election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Representative Gary Flakne on July 11, 1973 to become Hennepin County attorney. Knoll was general council of the Minneapolis Urban Coalition and received the DFL endorsement. Johnson was a retired Hennepin District Court administrative director and former state Representative (HD 31, 1949-1955).
