Special election due to the vacancy caused by the death of Representative Reuben (R.N.) Nelson on March 2, 1966. Stangeland was a resident of rural Barnesville and the Wilkin County GOP Chairman. Ouse was a resident of rural Rothsay and the Wilkin County DFL Chairman.
