Ogle was an attorney from Mankato, state Representative (HD 08, 1955-1959), and candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1958. He was the party-endorsed candidate.

Peterson was a sign painter from Duluth, a Republican candidate for Governor in 1944, 1952, and 1970, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in 1946, a Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1956, and a DFL candidate for Governor in 1966.

Spaeth was a resident of Roseville and former Minnesota Tax Commissioner.
