Associate Justice Knutson was reelected to a fourth term. On January 27, 1962 Knutson was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by Governor Elmer Andersen following the resignation of Chief Justice Roger Dell on January 26, 1962. Governor Andersen appointed Walter Rogosheske to fill the vacancy on February 1, 1962. Rogosheske was an attorney from LIttle Falls, sitting Seventh Judicial District Judge, and former state Representative (HD 45, 1943, 1945-1949).

Dressel was an attorney from Minnetonka, candidate for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1958, and nominee for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1962, 1964, and 1966.
