Chief Justice Dell was reelected to a third term. Dell resigned effective January 26, 1962. Governor Elmer Andersen appointed Associate Justice Oscar Knutson to fill the vacancy on January 27, 1962.
Hansen was an attorney from Minneapolis and former assistant U.S. Attorney.
