Attorney General Lord was reelected to a third term. Lord resigned effective May 4, 1960 to enter private practice in Minneapolis. Governor Orville Freeman appointed Minneaposli attorney and special assistant Attorney General Walter Mondale to fill the vacancy on May 5, 1960.
Saetre was a former FBI special agent and practiced law in Moorhead. Saetre was the Republican nominee for Attorney General in 1960 and he became a District Judge in the Seventh Judicial District in 1962.
