This is the only special election held for the office of Secretary of State in Minnesota history.
Holm was a former secretary and office manager from St. Paul and the widow of former 16-term Secretary of State Mike Holm.
Cooper was a hardware store owner from St. Louis Park and candidate for the election for the full term in 1952.
