Governor Stassen was renominated.

Nelson was an attorney from Austin, GOP gubernatorial nominee in 1934 and 1936 and candidate in 1938, and would later become a state court district judge and Minnesota Supreme Court Justice (1953-1972).

Alexander was a resident of Minneapolis involved in insurance and real estate and former Farmer-Laborite at-large U.S. House candidate in 1932, independent U.S. Senate candidate in 1936, and U.S. Representative (CD 03, 1939-1941).
