Associate Justice Holt was reelected to a sixth term.

Associate Justice Stone was reelected to a fourth term. Stone died in office five days following his 1942 primary nomination victory on September 13, 1942. Governor Harold Stassen appointed Maynard Pirsig to fill the vacancy on October 6, 1942. Pirsig was a professor at the University of Minnesota Law School.

Lee was an attorney from Minneapolis, nominee for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1928, 1930, and 1932, and Democratic candidate for the 5th CD in 1934.

Vanderburgh was an attorney from Minneapolis, candidate for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1918, 1920, 1922, 1924, and 1928, and nominee for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1926, 1930, 1932, and 1934. He was the son of Charles Vandenburgh, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court from 1882-1894.
