Special election caused by the vacancy following the death of Senator Harlow H. Bonniwell on April 28, 1935. Nelson was a farmer from Hutchinson. Filk was a dairy farmer from Hassan Valley Township. Nelson ran as an independent and Filk ran as a conservative.
