This was the 30th consecutive Republican victory for the office of Treasurer.
Treasurer Schmahl was reelected to a record fifth term in a rematch against Kleffman.
Kleffman was a resident of Hibbing, former state Representative (HD 60, 1921-1925), Farmer-Labor candidate for the 8th CD in 1924, nominee for SD 60 in 1930, Farmer-Labor nominee for Treasurer in 1932, and DFL nominee for Treasurer in 1944.
Bartley was a liquidating agent from Minneapolis.
