Treasurer Schmahl was reelected to a fourth term. The 1.16-point victory margin was the closest for the office at this point in Minnesota history, breaking the previous mark of 1.57 points when Democrat-Anti Monopolist Edwin Dyke defeated Republican Mons Grinager in 1873.
Kleffman was a resident of Hibbing, former state Representative (HD 60, 1921-1925), Farmer-Labor candidate for the 8th CD in 1924, nominee for SD 60 in 1930, Farmer-Labor nominee for Treasurer in 1934, and DFL nominee for Treasurer in 1944.
Doyle was a resident of St. Paul and Ramsey County Democratic Chairman.
