Special election on October 16, 1929 for the unexpired term ending March 3, 1931 to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Farmer-Laborite Ole J. Kvale on September 11, 1929.
A primary election was scheduled for October 9, 1929. However, Morrison's two challengers - J.M. Haughland of Montevideo and Lawrence M. Carlson of Renville - withdrew from the race. Democratic nominee C.B. Johnson of Willmar also withdrew from the race and Democrats backed the Farmer-Labor nominee Paul Kvale.
Paul Kvale was the son and private secretary to Congressman Ole Kvale.
Morrison was editor of the Morris Tribune.
