Associate Justice Hilton was appointed to the Court on January 1, 1928 by Governor Theodore Christianson following the resignation of Associate Justice James Quinn effective that day. Hilton was a resident of Fergus Falls, sitting Attorney General (1919-1927), former Fergus Falls City Attorney (1896-1898), former Otter Tail County Attorney (1899-1909), and former assistant Attorney General (1909-1917).

Lee was an attorney from Minneapolis, nominee for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1930, 1932, and 1936, and Democratic candidate for the 5th CD in 1934.
