Secretary of State Holm was reelected to his third term of 16 terms in a rematch against his chief 1922 opponent, Stageberg.

This was the second of Stageberg's three nominations for the office and the third consecutive cycle in which the Farmer-Labor Party nominated a woman for Secretary of State. She would also receive the Farmer-Labor nomination for the office in 1928 and the Progressive nomination for Lieutenant Governor in 1950. Stageberg became known as the "Mother of the Farmer-Labor Party and was the first woman to appear on a general election ballot for Secretary of State in Minnesota for her 1922 bid.

Halverson was a resident of Minneapolis, employee of International Harvester Co., and a former railroad telegrapher.
