Chase was a former Anoka municipal judge (1911-1916) and deputy state Auditor (1916-1921). He would later win the GOP nomination for Governor in 1930, serve in the U.S. House (AL, 1933-1935), was a candidate for U.S. Senate in 1940, and serve as Railroad and Warehouse Commission (1944-1948).
Magnuson was a former fire marshall and city clerk in St. Cloud. He ran as an insurgent "anti-machine" candidate. Magnuson was also a Republican candidate for the 6th CD in 1924, for Railroad and Warehouse Commissioner in 1928, and for Supreme Court Clerk in 1918 and 1938.
