Hilton became the first Minnesota attorney general to serve four terms.
Smelker was a St. Paul attorney and former two-term Wisconsin Assemblyman (1903-1907) and the first Secretary of the Farmer-Labor Party. He was the Farmer-Labor nominee for Clerk of the Supreme Court in 1930 and candidate for the 4th CD in 1942.
Doran was a resident of St. Paul.
