Collins was a resident of Minneapolis, corporal in the U.S. Army, and President of the Minnesota chapter of the veterarns of the Rainbow Division.
Mallon was a resident of Minneapolis, captain in the U.S. Army, and designated by General Pershing as one of the "hundred heroes" of the U.S. forces in World War I. Mallon would run as an independent in the general election.
