Second-place votes: Preus = 9,408; Rines = 9,306; Block = 10,021. The election was subject to a recount.
Preus was an attorney from Minneapolis and sitting state Insurance Commissioner (1911-1915).
Rines was a newspaper publisher from Mora and state Representative (HD 32, 1907-1915; HD 55, 1943-1947). Rines would later serve as Treasurer (1917-1925) and was a candidate for Auditor again in 1930.
Block was a resident of Duluth and former Treasurer (1901-1907).
