Secretary of State Schmahl was reelected to a state record fourth term, breaking the record of three terms also held by Republicans Fred Von Baumbach, Hans Mattson, Albert Berg, and Peter Hanson.

Norelius was a resident of Lindstrom amd editor of the Chisago County Press. Norelius was nominated by petition.

Charles (C.L.) Johnson was a resident of Anoka, Democratic-People's-Prohibition nominee for HD 35 in 1894, and Prohibition nominee for Secretary of State in 1916.
