Johnson was an editor and publisher from Saint Peter (St. Peter Herald) and former state Senator (SD 20, 1899-1903). He was the first Minnesota-born governor.

Dunn was a publisher from Princeton (Princeton Union) and former Mille Lacs County Attorney (1884-1888), state Representative (HD 39, 1889-1891; HD 46, 1893-1895), and state Auditor (1895-1903). Dunn would later against serve in the state House (HD 45, 1911-1915) and state Senate (SD 55, 1915-1918) and died in office.

Dorsett was a caterer from Minneapolis, nominee for Treasurer in 1900, and nominee for SD 39 in 1902, 1908, and 1910.

Nash was a hardware store owner from Robbinsdale, co-founder of the Social Democratic Party of Minnesota and the Public Ownership (Socialist) Party of Minnesota, Democratic nominee for SD 44 in 1898, Socialist gubernatorial nominee in 1902, and Socialist nominee for Treasurer in 1912 and 1914.
