Dixon, a farmer from Waterford, did not participate in the September primary in which the GOP only had one candidate (Kelly). The Dakota County Republican Committee selected Dixon to be their second nominee, but his name was ultimately removed from the ballot. Dixon still continued his campaign as a write-in candidate.
