Douglas became the sixth Minnesotan to win three elections for attorney general but did not serve out this term. Douglas resigned on March 31, 1904 to be appointed to the state Supreme Court by Governor Samuel Van Sant effective April 5, 1904 due to the resignation of Associate Justice Loren Collins. Van Sant appointed William Donahower of St. Peter to replace Douglas as Attorney General.
Larrabee was a former railroad general counsel, author, and practicing attorney in Minneapolis.
