Nelson was an attorney from Alexandria, former Wisconsin state Assemblyman (1868-1869), Douglas County Attorney (1872-1874), Minnesota state Senator (SD 39, 1875-1879), Regent of the University of Minnesota (1882-1893), and former U.S. Representative (CD 05, 1883-1889).
Lawler was an attorney from St. Paul and former U.S. Attorney (1886-1891). He was the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator in 1893, 1912, and 1916, Mayor of St. Paul (1908-1910), Democratic candidate for Governor in 1914, and Democratic nominee for the 4th CD in 1924.
Donnelly was an attorney, farmer, publisher, and author from Nininger. Donnelly was also a former Republican Lieutenant Governor (1860-1863), Republican U.S. Representative (1863-1869), Anti-Monopolist state Senator (SD 20, 1874-1878), Democratic state Senator (SD 20, 1878-1879), independent state Representative (HD 25, 1887-1889), Farmer’s Alliance state Senator (SD 24, 1891-1895), People’s state Representative (HD 24, 1897-1899), and People’s nominee for Vice President (1900).
Dean was a resident of Minneapolis who ran for Mayor of Minneapolis three times, twice as the Prohibition nominee (1888, 1896) and once as an independent (1900). He was also the Prohibition nominee for the U.S. House in the 4th CD (1890).
